Romney To Fire `Em Up At Richmond

Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney
Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will give the command to fire engines Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway.

Romney last attended a NASCAR race at the Daytona 500 in February, speaking to drivers and crewmembers in their weekly pre-race meeting and was scheduled to give the command until inclement weather forced postponement of the event until Monday night.
Ironically, the weather forecast for Saturday night’s Richmond race is not encouraging, with a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Romney’s opponent, President Barack Obama, has never attended a NASCAR race, but his wife, Michelle served as co-Grand Marshall of last year’s season-finale at Homestead Miami Speedway, along with Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden.

Romney enjoys significant support among NASCAR officials and team owners. NASCAR’s Brian France and Mike Helton hosted a fundraiser for the candidate in Charlotte, NC, recently, an affair that was also attended by driver Kurt Busch, Speedway Motorsports, inc. CEO Bruton Smith and team owners Richard Childress and Rick Hendrick.
