Paris Show 2012 Highlights: 2013 Opel/Vauxhall Adam

The Vauxhall Adam has been priced from £11,255, the company has confirmed at the style-led city car’s Paris motor show debut. Order books for the Adam are now open.

The three-door, four-seat Adam is available in three trim levels – the entry-level £11,255 Jam (pitched as fashionable colourful), the mid-range £12,650 Glam (elegant/sophisticated) and the range-topping £13,150 Slam (racy/sporty).

Vauxhall claims more than one million trim and spec combinations are possible. Buyers will be able to choose from 12 colours – ‘Purple Fiction’, ‘James Blonde’ ‘Papa don’t Peach’ and ‘Saturday White Fever’ are some of those offered – 20 different wheel designs and more than a dozen interior shades.

Styling packs can also be added that add two-tone themes to the exterior and interior. The ‘floating’ roof can be specced in one of three colours: ‘I’ll be Black’, ‘White my Fire’ or ‘Men in Brown’. Stripes for the doors, exterior mirror housings and roof can be chosen, too.

The interior can also be extensively customised. Interior panels can be chosen in one of the 12 exterior colour choices. These panels can be replaced by different colours throughout the car’s life. Other features include up to seven different mood lighting colours, and a ‘starlight’ headliner with 60 LED lights. The headliner can also be finished with cloud, leaf or chessboard motifs.

The Adam is the first Vauxhall to get the firm’s new ‘IntelliLink’ infotainment system. This syncs to Apple or android devices and can display internet-based apps on a colour screen in the centre console. Digital radio is standard, while a Park Assist II system is offered as an option.

Underpinning the Adam is a shortened version of the current Corsa’s platform. Wheel sizes of up to 16 and 18 inches can be fitted. A Hill Start Assist system is standard.

Three petrol engines will initially be offered, each with stop-start and mated to a five-speed manual gearbox as standard. A 1.2 is offered with either 69bhp or 86bhp, and a 1.4 comes with 99bhp. Later in the Adam’s life, a turbocharged, direct-injection three-cylinder 1.0-litre engine will be offered from Vauxhall’s new small petrol engine family. A six-speed manual is also in development.
