Talladega Sprint Cup Test Is Underway

Seven NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers are testing the new, 2013 cars today at Talladega Superspeedway; the first on-track test of the new, more stock-appearing Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota bodies slated for duty beginning with the 2013 Daytona 500. 

NASCAR and its teams are testing the new cars’ ability to execute multi-car, tandem-style drafting, with drivers Jeff Burton of Richard Childress Racing,  Kasey Kahne (Hendrick Motorsports) and Juan Pablo Montoya (Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing; all driving the still-disguised Chevrolet SS. 

Sam Hornish Jr.is at the wheel of a new, Penske Racing Ford Fusion, while 2013 Sprint Cup rookie Ricky Stenhouse Jr., shakes down a Fusion from the Roush Fenway Racing stable.  

Toyota is represented by Joe Gibbs Racing driver Joey Logano and Michael Waltrip Racing’s Brian Vickers.  

Today’s session runs from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. local time, and is open to the public. Section Y of Talladega’s backstretch  Allison Grandstand is open for seating, fans are invited to park in Lot 6E and enter the grandstands through gate P-22.
