The Los Angeles Motor Show will mark the debut of a new BMW i concept car, which will join the i3 supermini and i8 supercar as the third concept in BMW’s alternatively powered 'i' range.
Details will be revealed closer to the LA Motor Show’s press days, which begin on 28 November. But the concept is expected to be a sporty, fashion-conscious city car that compliments the more practical i3 (pictured in the sketch above), which will be the first i car to go on sale in the UK in late 2013.
Ahead of the reveal of the i4 concept, BMW has confirmed that its i Ventures sub-brand, which is based in New York, has invested in mobility app company Embark.
“I am pleased to announce today that for the first time BMW i Ventures is making a strategic investment in Embark – an award winning mobile app company dedicated to helping travellers navigate mass transit cities around the world”, says Ulrich Quay, Managing Director of BMW i Ventures.
“BMW and Embark share a common vision for mobility in big cities. BMW Ventures' investment in Embark will help our two innovative companies explore ways to work together in the coming years, especially in the area of intermodal mobility.”
David Hodge, Founder and CEO of Embark, said: “The investment will help Embark explore ways to partner with BMW and to expand geographically."
BMW i has already invested in firms including advanced city navigation app MyCityWay, an app that allows you to park in someone else’s driveway for a fee called ParkAtMyHouse, and the current largest online global electric car charging network, Chargepoint.
The investments are part of BMW’s bid to “further the company’s work increasing freedom of mobility for individuals whether it be by car, train, bus or on foot.” For more details click here.
