The facelifted BMW 5 Series GT has been caught testing ahead of its debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January.
Sales of the Audi A6 Allroad rival have been sluggish in Europe but the 5 Series GT is popular in China, so it’s been treated to a mid-life facelift to keep it ahead of the game in the lucrative Asian market.
These spy shots show that there’s a new lower front bumper section with redesigned air intakes. The front grille and headlamps appear untouched, but there are more significant changes at the back of the car.
The hatch’s integrated spoiler will be replaced with a softer, more understated bootlid, complemented by a new rear bumper design. It won’t alter the 5 Series GT’s 1,650 litres of load space, however.
Interior changes are likely to be limited to colour choice and spec adjustments, while the current engine line-up will remain.
This means that the range will start with a 2.0-litre diesel, which delivers 53.3mpg and 139g/km, through to the 449bhp 4.4-litre V8 in the 550i SE which has a 0-62mph time of 5.0 seconds.
The revised BMW 5 Series GT will go on sale in the UK in late 2013, with prices starting from £36,500. For more details click here.
