Opel Insignia Model Year 2012: New Engines and Premium Features
- Best-in-class: New 1.4 turbo ecoFLEX thriftiest gasoline engine in mid-size class
- Powerful: New 2.0 turbo with 185 kW/250 hp delivers 400 Nm of torque
- Clever: Start/Stop system available for many engine variants
- Added value: Navigation system, front camera, high-class leather interior
Rüsselsheim. Since making its debut, the Opel Insignia has won more than 50 national and international awards, including the especially prestigious title "Car of the Year". Customers have affirmed this critical success with great demand - over 400,000 units of the brand flagship have been sold to date. With new gasoline engines and state-of-the-art technologies, the Insignia is set to continue its successful run in model year 2012. Prices start at 23,330 euro (RRP incl. VAT).
New gasoline engine with 103 kW/140 hp sets standards in fuel economy
The newly developed 1.4 turbo ecoFLEX gasoline engine is the product of uncompromising "downsizing". In combination with six-speed manual transmission, Start/Stop technology, power steering, aerodynamic underbody paneling and size 225/50 R 17 low-rolling-resistance tires, it is the most economical gasoline engine in the entire mid-size class segment.
All together, these measures reduce the 1.4 turbo fuel consumption - compared with the previous 1.8-liter version, also with 103 kW/140 hp - by two liters in the sedan to 5.7 liters per 100 kilometers. CO2 emissions are reduced by 45 grams to 134 grams per kilometer - in both cases a reduction of more than 25 percent. At the same time, the torque delivered by the most economical gasoline engine in its class was increased by almost 15 percent to 200 Nm.
With this performance potential the Insignia 1.4 turbo ecoFLEX can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 10.9 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 205 km/h. Opel's top model is available with this propulsion variant as a sedan or as a Sports Tourer and - with 5.9 liters per 100 km and 139 g/km CO2 - it also sets standards in the station wagon segment.
Refinements to the new powertrain also include the optimization of the transmission ratio, resulting in reduced consumption and improved agility. The electric power steering REPS (Rack Assist Electric Power Steering) featured for the first time in the Insignia provides additional comfort. Its steering characteristics can now be even more flexibly adapted to every driving situation. A significant advantage of the REPS system is the potential for fuel saving and thus a reduction in CO2 emissions. As it does not permanently rely on a running hydraulic servo pump, the electric power steering is only active when it is required.
2.0 turbo 4x4: More power and torque with reduced consumption
The two-liter turbo with direct injection in combination with the state-of-the-art 4x4 all-wheel drive goes into the new model year with 30 hp higher output. It is available with six-speed manual transmission or automatic transmission. The engine delivers 185 kW/250 hp and maximum torque of 400 Nm (previously 350 Nm). This powerful drivetrain with manual transmission can sprint from zero to 100 km/h in just 7.5 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
The 2-liter turbo unit is impressive proof that increased output and reduced fuel consumption can go hand in hand. Thanks to extensive measures like the Start/Stop system and low-rolling-resistance tires, Opel engineers were able to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions to 8.4 l/100 km and 197 g/km respectively (previously: 8.9 l/100 km, 209 g/km CO2). With this increase in power and torque and the even more dynamic characteristics - with simultaneous reduction in fuel consumption - the Insignia 2.0 turbo 4x4 convinces with a top performance in the premium mid-size class segment.
Opel Start/Stop system with many engine variants
Not just the two units already mentioned benefit from the Opel Start/Stop system. The 162 kW/220 hp 2.0 turbo with front-wheel drive and six-speed manual transmission will soon be available with the intelligent fuel-saving technology - including aerodynamic underbody paneling and rolling-resistance-optimized tires.
This reduces fuel consumption by 0.5 to 7.6 liters per 100 kilometers. The Start/Stop system is in its element in city traffic, where up to one liter per 100 kilometers can be saved. The CO2 emissions in the combined cycle were reduced accordingly to 179 instead of the former 189 grams per kilometer.
New infotainment systems
The new infotainment systems Navi 600 and Navi 900 Europa are far superior to the CD or DVD-based predecessor versions in terms of the scope of features offered. All of the map material is stored on SD cards, and the maps can be adapted to suit individual customer needs. In addition to the default points of interest (POIs), further POIs can be downloaded and stored on the device. The driver can select single points and store these in the address book as individual POIs. Another practical feature: as well as the fastest and shortest routes, the navigation system also allows the selection of the most economical, i.e. lowest fuel consumption routes.
The Navi 900 Europa system also offers a voice recognition and log book function - the latter with the option of separating private and business trips. An additional POI announcement informs the driver of points of interest in the direct proximity by audible signal, text or popup. As of the equipment variant "Edition", an especially high-quality Infinity sound system is also available.
Opel front camera with additional functions
The Opel Insignia also offers further optimizations in the model year 2012 in terms of safety. The new Opel front camera, used for traffic sign recognition and lane departure warning to date, now also has the Following Distance Indication which constantly measures the distance to the car ahead in seconds. It is activated automatically from a speed of 40 km/h and helps the driver to avoid rear-end collisions and possible fines for tailgating. The Forward Collision Alert provides a visual signal on the instrument cluster and an audible alarm to warn the driver of an imminent collision with the car ahead. Additionally, the optionally available front camera in conjunction with AFL+ serves as a High Beam Assist.
Premium equipment: Nappa leather "Indian Night"
The model year 2012 Insignia also offers enhanced comfort and additional elegance. It is available on request with premium Nappa leather finish "Indian Night" which is distinguished by a combination of high-quality black leather with contrasting stitching in an elegant Cognac tone. The exterior look is refined by the new dark metallic lacquer "Luxor", which, depending on the light, has blue-violet color reflections. The sporty, elegant silhouette of the Opel Insignia will be rounded off in the coming months by a selection of new alloy wheels with striking rim designs.
Alain Visser, Vice President Sales, Marketing and Aftersales at Opel, on the market potential of the optimized Opel Insignia: "With its new product characteristics, particularly regarding fuel consumption and CO2 reductions, the Insignia will strengthen its outstanding position in its class - to the benefit of our customers."

2011 Vauxhall Corsa VXR Blue Color
The blue edition's main selling point is the special Arden Blue Metallic paint. There is not anything to write home, but it should be sufficient for the hardcore fans VXR satisfying. Also added is a series of 18-inch light-alloy wheels, you do not switch to aftermarket ones. Full dark tinted windows, custom interior openings and Recaro seats list of design changes. It is by no means a revolutionary change, but you can expect € 445 to save the price of a Corsa "standard" VXR with this package to compare.
Like the rest of the way to the new Corsa OPC Blue "Eagle Eye" headlights, but adds a blue banner in the grid. As usual OPC also gets sexy fog lights, exhaust a more aggressive front spoiler, rear wing and the small center-exit. But the Blue Edition adds blue stitching on the leather steering wheel, blue sky and blue trim on the openings Recaro seats. It is linked to bag sports suspension, enhanced brakes and ESP.
While the Corsa OPC is a bit old, but the performance is nothing to be ashamed. Power comes from a 1.6-liter turbo engine delivers 192 kW, with little (141 kW, 189 HP) at 5850 rpm and 230 Nm (170 lb-ft) Max torque between 1.980 to 5,800 rpm. It is enough for a 0-60mph (98 kph) of only 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 140 mph (225 kph).

2011 Vauxhall VXR8
Vauxhall has revealed its new 2011 VXR8. These first official pictures of the VXR8 show an edgier and more aggressive look over the model it replaces. But it's way more expensive, too.
The VXR8 is based on the Holden Commodore, but instead of the hot ClubSport R8 model on which the previous Vauxhall was based, the new model starts with the new E3 GTS just launched in Australia. That means a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 with 425 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque – kept in line by new Magnetic Ride Control and Launch Control systems, driving through a six-speed transmission (automatic or manual) and a mechanical diff – for a 4.9-second sprint to 60 mph and an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph.
Afresh, ‘Shockwave’ grille, LED day running lights and sleek fresh wing-vents mark the fresh auto away by the front, while the rear characteristics afresh ‘Superflow’ rear spoiler, LED taillights and twin deplete tips that mime the shape of the face grille.
Vauxhall VXR8 has also employed the Magnetic Ride Control (MRC) which adapts to road conditions 1000 times per second, together with the Launch Control feature which engages when the driver sets the Electronic Stability Control in Competition Mode.
2011 Vauxhall VXR8 is priced at at £49 500.
Press Release
REAR-DRIVE, 6.2-LITRE V8, SUB-£50K: IT HAS TO BE THE NEW VXR8!
- New VXR8 hits UK dealers next March, based on higher-spec GTS model
- Re-designed exterior and new interior with full leather trim as standard
- Magnetic Ride Control & Launch Control complement 431PS V8 powertrain
Priced at £49,500 (inc. 20 per cent VAT) and available to order later this month, the new VXR8 is now based on HSV's E3 GTS model, just launched in Australia, the previous VXR8 representing the old version of the lower-spec ClubSport R8. That means it still undercuts full-size super saloons like the Audi RS6, Jaguar XFR and Mercedes E63 AMG by between £13k and £29k, and even performance saloons from the class below, such as the BMW M3 and Mercedes C63 AMG.
A new, 'Shockwave' grille, LED daytime running lights and sleek new wing-vents mark the new car out from the front, while the rear features a new 'Superflow' rear spoiler, LED tail lamps and twin exhaust tips that mimic the shape of the front grille. As you can see from these first official press shots of our Hazard Yellow car, the new VXR8 will never blend into the scenery!
As before, the new VXR8's race-bred chassis uses MacPherson struts/progressive rate coil springs at the front and a multi-link independent set-up at the rear. But for the first time on a VXR8, Vauxhall has employed Magnetic Ride Control (MRC), a suspension system which adapts up to 1000 times a seconds to road conditions and driver inputs. Based on technology used in GM's current Corvette ZR1 supercar, MRC works by sending an electric current through damper units filled with 'soft' magnetic particles. These particles harden as the input reaches its maximum value, providing drivers with exceptional levels of ride, handling and stopping power.
Complementing the new VXR8's MRC is Launch Control, which is engaged when drivers select the ESC's (Electronic Stability Control) Competition Mode. The system dictates the level of torque delivered to the rear wheels for maximum acceleration, according to surface conditions. All the driver has to do is floor the throttle and let the car do the rest. Extensive testing has proved that LC results in acceleration runs no more than 0.1 second apart.
Of course, no VXR8 would be complete without a large-capacity V8, and this latest version doesn't disappoint. The fourth generation 6.2-litre LS3 unit produces 431PS and a massive 550Nm of torque, enough to propel the VXR8 from 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds and on to a governed top speed of 155mph. As before, drive is delivered to the rear axle via either a six-speed manual or auto transmission, working through a mechanical limited slip differential.
Inside, the new VXR8 has undergone a transformation. Full leather trim is now standard, and front occupants are cocooned in special HSV Performance Seats with eight-way adjustability. A new instrument cluster and surround, centre stack and switchgear provide a cleaner and more integrated look, while standard equipment also includes Aux-in/USB inputs, iPod support and Bluetooth with phone book display and touch-screen dialling.
But for drivers who want to engage with their VXR8 like never before, Vauxhall has introduced EDI, or Enhanced Driver Interface. EDI connects with the on-board computer to constantly stream real-time vehicle dynamics and performance to the car's main 5-inch monitor. At the touch of the screen, drivers can access a variety of data such as vehicle G-forces, power and torque and lap times – even the degree to which their VXR8 is drifting. Completing the clever package is the ability for drivers to download data, such as track day performance, and analyse it using the MOTEC i2 software provided.
Befitting its exclusivity, the VXR8 is now available through just six highly specialist VXR dealers in the UK, though a total of 34 VXR outlets will be authorised to maintain the model.

Vauxhall Ampera available for £28,995

Vauxhall has announced today that its Ampera Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (E-REV) will cost under £30,000 when it hits UK showrooms in early 2012, after taking advantage of the £5,000 plug-in car Government grant.
The Vauxhall boasts a 50 mile battery electric drive range, which Vauxhall believes exceeds the UK's average commuting distance. However, if you need to go on a longer journey, the Ampera's range-extender engine/generator produces electricity on board.
The Vauxhall Ampera differs from standard hybrid cars because the electric motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery. The small petrol engine does not drive the wheels under speeds of 70mph, instead it charges the battery to boost the range to 360 miles.
Fully recharging the Vauxhall Ampera takes less the 4 hours through a 240V electricity socket, at an average cost of around 1 GBP, and overall the car will have extremely low running costs.
The Vauxhall Ampera price list starts at 28,995 GBP. The benefit of buying a Vauxhall Ampera is that you won't have to pay the TFL congestion charge, Vehicle Excise Duty payments and 5% company car taxation. The Vauxhall Ampera price is also lowered by the 5000 GBP Plug-In Car Grant.

Press Release
- Announced today - Ampera qualifies for Plug-In Car Grant of £5000
- Customers to pay £28,995 after benefiting from grant
- UK’s first extended-range electric vehicle now an uncompromised reality for families
- Up to 50 miles battery only commuting with 360-mile range when needed
- Opportunity to become a Vauxhall Ampera ‘ ePioneer’
Luton – Vauxhall has announced today that its revolutionary Ampera Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (E-REV) will cost under £30k when it hits UK showrooms in early 2012, bringing the reality of a technologically sophisticated, electrically-driven, family car with an uncompromised driving range firmly into the mainstream.
After taking advantage of the £5000 Plug-In Car Grant, customers will pay just £28,995 for the Ampera. And it’s not just the price that impresses; with the efficiency of up to 50 miles range on battery power, free TFL congestion charge, no Vehicle Excise Duty payments and 5% company car taxation, Ampera’s overall running costs will be extremely low.
The Vauxhall Ampera is the only real-world electric car solution for a family. It is extremely efficient, unique in the market and has a numberof operating modes, maximising performance in all circumstances. Its 50 mile battery electric drive range exceeds the UK’s average commuting distance but when a longer journey is required, Ampera’s range-extender engine/generator produces electricity on board. The generator engages seamlessly once the battery has reached a minimum level of charge. The 50-mile battery electric range is thus extended by 310 miles permitting the driver to travel up to 360 miles without the need for recharging or refuelling.
A full charge for Ampera’s battery can be achieved in less than four hours via a domestic 240v electricity socket at an average cost of around £1, depending on tariff. Commuting within the 50 mile range willensure very low running costs on battery electric drive only.
Become an ePioneer
Vauxhall is offering the exciting opportunity to become an ePioneer and be amongst the first to own an Ampera. For a £150 fully refundable reservation fee, potential customers can register at www.vauxhall-ampera.co.uk where they can pre-order an Ampera and also access exclusive events and opportunities in the build up to launch. There is no commitment to purchase.
The same website also offers much more information on the Vauxhall Ampera and includes Facebook, Twitter and YouTube links.

Vauxhall Insignia (2009)
With its groundbreaking design and sophisticated technology, the new Insignia takes Vauxhall's new-found design language to another level. The premium styling of the new five-seater - initially available in hatchback and saloon guise - clearly defines Vauxhall's philosophy of making advanced technology and attractive design affordable.
The Vauxhall Insignia boasts a flowing, powerful silhouette with a coupé-like roofline. The body's sculpted shape is accented by sweeping front and rear light designs and enhanced by a bold radiator grille with a new-look Vauxhall emblem. A distinctive "blade" feature runs from behind the front wheel along the side of the car, further emphasising its taut and rakish lines.
"We've re-defined our design vocabulary," says Mark Adams, Vice President Design, GM Europe. "The Insignia is muscular, but lithe and curvaceous. Our aim was to develop a confident look which reinforced the car's superb driving dynamics, but also one that made it clear that this was a premium product, albeit still at a highly competitive price in its class."
Vauxhall's unique design language spreads into the cabin of the Vauxhall Insignia, bringing new levels of luxury, style and quality. The dashboard's top-pad wraps around from the instrument panel to the door, creating a unique wing-shape and embracing the occupants. Ambient lighting, which will be featured in future Vauxhall models, radiates a warm, luxurious aura. Much emphasis has also been put into the development of the seats, which set the highest standards in ergonomics, comfort and safety.
Vauxhall's unique expertise in lighting technology is underpinned by the Vauxhall Insignia's latest generation AFL (Adaptive Forward Lighting) system. Nine different light beam settings automatically adjust themselves to cater for various driving conditions, simultaneously enhancing safety and driving pleasure. Moreover, the distinctive styling signature of the front and rear light clusters adds to the Vauxhall Insignia's unique design.
"As each feature demonstrates, the Vauxhall Insignia is the result of our quest to develop a car that combines striking design, excellent driving dynamics and innovative technology," says Hans Demant, Vice President, Engineering for GM Europe.
The further enhanced IDSPlus active chassis system helps the car adapt to prevailing driving conditions. The Vauxhall Insignia will be offered with front-wheel and all-wheel drive. The new 'Adaptive 4X4' system's proactive, instantaneous torque distribution not only ensures optimal traction but also enhances dynamic handling performance.
The Vauxhall Insignia is available with five engines at launch. All meet the Euro 5 emissions standard and come with either manual or automatic six-speed transmissions. The three petrol engines range from a four-cylinder 140PS unit to a V6 with 260PS. Two new 2.0-litre direct-injection diesels engines will be offered with power outputs of either 130PS or 160PS. In time, the Vauxhall Insignia engine line-up will be extended with an EcoFLEX version offering ultra-low CO2 emissions in addition to other, more powerful variants.
The Vauxhall Insignia was developed by GM Europe with a significant contribution coming from Vauxhall's Engineering Centre at Millbrook in Bedfordshire, UK.
