Market launch for 18 new Mercedes-AMG high-performance models: Performance meets efficiency

Mercedes-AMG sets the pace: This June witnesses the premieres of 18 new AMG high-performance models at Mercedes-Benz dealerships. With a power output spectrum ranging from 265 kW (360 hp) to 552 kW (751 hp), the new AMG vehicles demonstrate both performance and superb efficiency. This unrivalled model initiative from Mercedes-AMG represents the embodiment of the "AMG Performance 50" future strategy in the run-up to the 50th birthday of Mercedes-AMG GmbH in 2017.

Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH: "The market launch of 18 new AMG modelsreflects our consistent focus on performance, dynamism and growth. The A 45 AMG will appeal to new customers and tap into new markets. The C 63 AMG "Edition 507", available in Coupé, Saloon and Estate variants, is a sporty model, full of character, for all fans of our high-capacity V8 naturally aspirated engine. We also have a broad range of new S-Models and 4MATIC all-wheel drive variants of the E 63 AMG and CLS 63 AMG – allowing our customers to benefit from tailor-made individuality. The SLS AMG Coupé Black Series and the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive epitomise the state of the art in technical terms when it comes to the development of outstanding super sports cars."

A 45 AMG: the beginning of a new era

The A 45 AMG sees Mercedes-AMG embarking on a new era. For the first time in a company history that extends back over more than 45 years, Mercedes-Benz's performance brand is offering a fascinating high-performance vehicle in the compact class. With a maximum output of 265 kW (360 hp) and maximum torque of 450 newton metres, the AMG 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine is the most powerful four-cylinder engine in series production anywhere in the world. Its fuel consumption of 6.9 litres per 100 kilometres according to NEDC combined means that the A 45 AMG leads its segment in this respect as well. New standards are also set by the performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. The fully equipped A 45 AMG "Edition 1" offers an expressive combination of exclusive exterior and interior details that cannot fail to fascinate.

C 63 AMG "Edition 507" as Coupé, Saloon and Estate

The C 63 AMG models are set to become an even more dynamic proposition: in exclusive "Edition 507" guise, the AMG high-performance models are equipped with an uprated AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine. The 37 kW (50 hp) boost to 373 kW (507 hp), combined with maximum torque of 610 Nm, derives from the transfer of technology from the SLS AMG, with the forged pistons, connecting rods and lightweight crankshaft adopted from the super sports car's eight-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. The C 63 AMG "Edition 507" accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 / 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of 280 km/h. An AMG high-performance braking system with red brake callipers comes as standard. The C 63 AMG "Edition 507" will appeal to those who aspire to a sporty driving style, who will relish the high-calibre technology and numerous exclusive design and equipment features.

E 63 AMG: With 4MATIC and as S-Model

The new E 63 AMG is also available with immediate effect as a particularly exclusive and powerful S-Model with an output of 430 kW (585 hp) and 800 newton metres of torque, along with the newly developed, performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. The all-wheel drive system is also available as an option for the other E 63 AMG models – in this case the output of the V8 engine increases from the earlier figure of 386 kW (525 hp) and 700 Nm to 410 kW (557 hp) with torque of 720 Nm. Fuel consumption according to NEDC combined ranges from 9.8 to 10.5 litres per 100 km.

CLS 63 AMG: The new benchmark

Performance update for the CLS 63 AMG: the CLS 63 AMG, in both Coupé and Shooting Brake variants, joins the E 63 AMG in benefiting from the latest model enhancements. In its S-Model guise, the CLS 63 AMG is similarly equipped with the performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive system and features the AMG 5.5-litre biturbo engine with a top performance of 430 kW (585 hp) and maximum torque of 800 newton metres. The variant with 410 kW (557 hp) and 720 newton metres is also available as an option with the performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. The fuel consumption ranges between 9.9 and 10.6 litres per 100 km (NEDC combined).

SLS AMG Coupé Black Series: GT3 performance for the road

The SLS AMG Coupé Black Series is the high-end super sports version of the gullwing model. Inspired by the SLS AMG GT3 racing version, the fifth Mercedes-AMG Black Series model boasts a fascinating mix of breathtaking design, outstanding driving dynamics and uncompromising lightweight construction in accordance with the "AMG Lightweight Performance" strategy. With a DIN kerb weight of 1550 kilograms, the SLS AMG Black Series achieves a power-to-weight ratio of 2.45 kg/hp. The AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine generates a power output of 464 kW (631 hp) at 7400 rpm and accelerates the most dynamic road-going gullwing model of all time to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds.

SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive: the most powerful electric sports car in the world

With the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive, Mercedes-AMG is entering a new era: the locally emission-free super sports car featuring advanced technology from the world of Formula 1 represents the most exclusive and dynamic form of electric motoring. The current most powerful AMG high-performance vehicle has four electric motors producing a total output of 552 kW (751 hp) and maximum torque of 1000 newton metres. As a result, the gullwing model has acquired the status of the world's fastest electrically-powered series production vehicle: the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Meanwhile, the exclusively tuned "SLS eSound" means that this matchless driving experience stirs the emotions acoustically too in typical AMG fashion. Outstanding driving dynamics are ensured by the AMG Torque Dynamics with wheel-selective all-wheel drive. The extremely powerful high-voltage battery is the outcome of the cooperation between Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth (GB). The Formula 1 experts in Great Britain were able to take advantage here of their extensive experience with KERS Hybrid.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive recently circled the Nürburgring Nordschleife (“north loop”) in a record time of 7:56.234 minutes. Therefore, the electric AMG super sports car is at the same time the first electrically-powered series production vehicle, which masters the legendary race track in under eight minutes.

Special experience: delivery at AMG Customer Centre in Affalterbach

As an alternative to the classic vehicle delivery method at dealerships and authorised agents of Mercedes-Benz, customers may choose to take delivery of their AMG high-performance vehicle direct from the AMG Customer Centre in Affalterbach. When collecting their vehicle in this way, customers are able to gain an exclusive insight into the world of AMG and experience the excellent quality of customer care that is so typical of AMG. After being welcomed by a personal customer service advisor and treated to some hospitality in the AMG Private Lounge, they are taken on a tour of the plant. This also includes a visit to the AMG Performance Studio, where some very distinctive limited-run AMG vehicles and one-off models are developed and produced by hand. In the AMG engine production facility, AMG customers are also able to experience the way engines are individually hand-assembled, in accordance with the traditional philosophy of "one man, one engine."

The ultimate highlight of the day is then of course the handover of the new AMG vehicle: customers are given a thorough introduction to the technical features and controls of their new model in the 360 square-metre delivery hall. Vehicle collection at the AMG Customer Centre in Affalterbach is available to customers in Germany for all AMG high-performance models.

sport auto Award 2013: Threefold victory for Mercedes-AMG in the vote for the sportiest car of 2013

The sporting heart of Mercedes-Benz continues to beat firmly and with gusto - as confirmed by the latest reader poll undertaken by the German motoring magazine "sport auto", which had called for its readers to vote for "the sportiest cars of 2013". Mercedes‑AMG took the first place in three categories. Winners of the "sport auto Award" 2013 were the A 45 AMG, the C 63 AMG and the SLS AMG GT.

More than 230 cars, in 15 categories, lined up this year in the now traditional reader poll to determine the sportiest cars around. 15,353 readers of the specialist motoring magazine "sport auto" cast their votes.

The undisputed leader in the compact car category was the A 45 AMG, which took almost a third of all votes. With 265 kW (360 hp) from a displacement of 1991 cc, its four-cylinder engine is considered to be the most powerful four-cylinder turbo unit in series production anywhere in the world.

Among saloons in the price range up to 100,000 euros, more than one in four "sport auto" readers voted to put the C 63 AMG with V8 engine, a displacement of 6208 cc and 336 kW (457 hp), in first place, while among the coupé models priced at more than 150,000 euros, the SLS AMG GT leapt convincingly ahead to take the lead in this high-octane category. From a displacement of 6208 cc, this model boasts 435 kW (591 hp). The SLS AMG GT is also the model supplied by AMG, the performance brand of Mercedes-Benz, as the Official F1® Safety Car – the 18th time it has been provided by the brand.

Fittingly enough, the main prize in this year's poll – the winner of which was drawn from among all entries submitted – was a Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG. The lucky winner will therefore soon be driving a winning model.

The C 63 AMG models are set to become an even more dynamic proposition: in exclusive "Edition 507" guise, the Saloon, Estate and Coupé are equipped with an uprated AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine. The 37 kW (50 hp) boost to 373 kW (507 hp) combined with maximum torque of 610 Nm derives from the transfer of technology from the SLS AMG, with the forged pistons, connecting rods and lightweight crankshaft adopted from the super sports car's eight-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. An AMG high-performance composite brake system with red callipers comes as standard. The C 63 AMG "Edition 507" is designed to appeal to keen sports drivers who will appreciate the high-calibre technology and a wealth of exclusive design details and appointments.

In action for the 2013 FIA Formula One World Championship™: The SLS AMG GT and the C 63 AMG Estate help to ensure safety in Formula 1®

In the new 2013 Formula 1® season, Mercedes-AMG will once again help to ensure safety at all Formula 1® races forming part of the FIA Formula One World Championship™. For the 18th year the performance brand of Mercedes-Benz is providing the Official F1® Safety Car and the Official F1® Medical Car. The SLS AMG GT with 435 kW (591 hp) and the C 63 AMG Estate with 358 kW (487 hp) will be deployed at the direction of Race Control officials usually when weather or incidents are considered to impact on the safety of a race. The two AMG high-performance cars had their first appearance at the opening race of the Formula 1® season in Melbourne/Australia (14 to 17 March) the 2013 FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX. The second race of the season, the 2013 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix will take place this weekend.

The main reasons for intervention by the Safety Car are poor weather conditions or accidents. The Official F1® Safety Car is driven by Bernd Mayländer (from Germany) and his co-driver, the FIA‑employee Pete Tibbetts (from Great Britain). Bernd Mayländer: "We are on standby in the pit lane in the Official F1® Safety Car, waiting for a radio message from Race Control." When the need arises, the aim is to guide the field safely around the track until the danger no longer exists. The racing driver from Schorndorf has been the official driver of the Safety Car for the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) since 2000. As a former DTM driver he is also active as an instructor for the AMG Driving Academy and as a Mercedes-Benz brand ambassador at selected events.

Perfect super sports car genes as the basis for dynamic performance

The SLS AMG GT is the perfect car for the exacting requirements of Formula 1®. In keeping with the philosophy of Mercedes-AMG, the Safety Car does without technical modifications or retrofitted lightweight design measures as far as possible. The SLS AMG GT's outstanding driving dynamics come courtesy of its thoroughbred super sports car heritage: thanks to an aluminium spaceframe body, the Official F1® Safety Car tips the scales at just 1620 kg (DIN kerb weight). Thanks to the dry-sump lubrication system, it has been possible to install the V8 engine very low down, giving the vehicle a low centre of gravity. And as a result of the engine's positioning behind the front axle and the transaxle arrangement of the dual-clutch transmission on the rear axle, the car also has a favourable weight distribution ratio of 47:53 percent (front/rear). As is customary on super sports cars, aluminium double-wishbone axles to ensure high cornering speeds, precise turn-in characteristics and superb agility, as well as low mass inertia during sudden changes of direction are all part of the package with the SLS AMG GT.

The 6.3-litre V8 front mid-engine with a maximum output of 435 kW (591 hp) and 650 newton metres of peak torque is also the series-production version, as are the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission, the AMG RIDE CONTROL Performance suspension, the AMG high-performance ceramic composite brake system and the weight-optimised AMG 10-spoke forged light-alloy wheels painted in matt black with a high-sheen finish. The rear silencer specially developed for the Safety Car generates an even more exciting V8 sound signature to thrill Formula 1® fans watching at the circuit as well as at home on TV. The SLS AMG GT accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, and reaches the 200 km/h mark after just 11.2 seconds.

Aerodynamically optimised roof light bar incorporating LED technology

The major distinguishing visual feature between the standard production SLS AMG GT and the Official F1® Safety Car is the roof light bar. It boasts an aerodynamically efficient profile and sits on a special carbon-fibre hood which ensures the most efficient airflow over the rear aerofoil, which automatically extends at speeds above 120 km/h. All of the bar's light functions are handled by LEDs which offer a fast response time and low power consumption.

- Green: the two centrally positioned green lights on the front and rear are lit up when the gullwing model joins the field at the start of a Safety Car phase. Permanent green is the signal for all Formula 1® drivers to overtake the Safety Car.

- Orange: as soon as the Safety Car has positioned itself in front of all of the Formula 1® racing cars, the green LEDs are switched off and the orange LEDs are switched on. The flashing orange lights on the outer ends of the bar indicate that no overtaking whatsoever is allowed.

The roof light bar also incorporates a TV camera, and a second camera located next to the rear number plate allows the driver and co-driver to keep an eye on the Formula 1® cars behind via a monitor in the cockpit. The special number plate on the rear, with "Safety Car" lettering and 700 green LEDs, provides additional safety in darkness or wet weather. Another important feature is the stroboscopic lights in the headlamps and tail lights. They are activated permanently and provide a general signalling function while the Safety Car is being deployed.

In action 13 times during nine races in the 2012 FIA Formula One World Championship™

In last year's Formula 1® season the Official F1® Safety Car went into action in nine of the 20 races. In 2012 the SLS AMG GT took to the track 13 times, covering 53 laps and a distance of 281 kilometres. The SLS AMG GT celebrated its Formula 1® debut at the 2012 FORMULA 1 SHELL BELGIAN GRAND PRIX, replacing the SLS AMG. As in previous years, the SLS AMG GT Official F1® Safety Car will be operational at all rounds of the 2013 FIA Formula One World Championship™.

C 63 AMG Estate: the Official F1® Medical Car

To accompany the Official F1® Safety Car in the 2013 season, Mercedes-AMG is once again providing the Official F1® Medical Car. As in the previous years since 2008, the C 63 AMG Estate will be responsible for ensuring a rapid emergency response in the event of an accident. The Medical Car follows the Formula 1® field during the initial lap, as the racing cars are still bunched extremely closely together during this critical phase of the race.

The 6.3-litre V8 engine of the C 63 AMG has the AMG Performance package and delivers an output of 358 kW (487 hp). High performance is also ensured by the variable coil-over suspension, the AMG high-performance braking system, AMG light-alloy wheels with tyre sizes 235/35 R 19 (front) and 255/30 R 19 (rear), the differential lock and 3-stage ESP®. Visually, the Medical Car is similar to the Safety Car: the light bar on the roof, the FIA and F1®logos, the stroboscopic LED lights at the front and rear, and the rear number plate illuminated with LEDs and with "Medical Car" lettering, distinguish the special Estate model from the standard production vehicle. To ensure the best possible airflow to the radiator, the AMG front apron also has larger intake apertures and side air vents.

Plenty of space in the boot for emergency equipment

The Official F1® Medical Car is driven by racing driver Alan van de Merwe (from South Africa); his co-driver is the official FIA Chief Medical Officer Dr Ian Roberts (from Great Britain). Two assisting medical personnel from a specially selected clinic near the race track sit in the rear. Four AMG sports bucket seats with six-point seat belts, two monitors integrated into the centre console for monitoring the race and a radio set for communicating with Race Control distinguish the interior of the Official F1® Medical Car from that of the standard production C 63 AMG Estate. There is plenty of space for all the emergency equipment – including a defibrillator and respiration apparatus – in the 485-litre luggage area of the C 63 AMG Estate.

18 years of Safety Cars and Medical Cars from Mercedes-AMG

Mercedes-AMG has extensive experience in the design, development and deployment of the Official F1® Safety Car and Official F1® Medical Car. The Affalterbach-based company has been active in the top echelons of international motorsport since 1996.

Exclusive increase in output to 373 kW (507 hp) - A new level of dynamism: the C 63 AMG "Edition 507"

The C 63 AMG models are becoming even more dynamic: the AMG high-performance cars are being fitted with an AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine with increased output as exclusive "Edition 507" models. The increase of 37 kW (50 hp) now brings output to 373 kW (507 hp) with a maximum torque of 610 Nm, and is a result of a technology transfer from the SLS AMG: the eight-cylinder naturally aspirated engine from the super sports car features forged pistons, connecting rods and a lightweight crankshaft. An AMG high-performance composite braking system with red brake callipers is fitted as standard. The C 63 AMG "Edition 507" is designed to appeal to ambitious sports drivers who take pleasure in top-class technology as well as exclusive design and appointment details.

The C 63 AMG "Edition 507" produces 373 kW (507 hp), and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds in the guise of the Saloon and Coupé, and in 4.3 seconds as the Estate. As such it outperforms the 336 kW (457 hp) standard model by two tenths of a second, and the variants with the AMG Performance package which produce 358 kW (487 hp) by one tenth of a second each. The top speed of all variants is 280 km/h (electronically limited): this is because as standard the "Edition 507" models are fitted with the AMG Driver’s package. In addition to an increase in the restriction imposed on the top speed, the package also includes a voucher for attendance of a driver training session at the AMG Driving Academy.

According to Ola Källenius,Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH: "The C 63 AMG with the classic AMG 6.3-litre high-revving V8 naturally aspirated engine is one of the most popular AMG high-performance cars in the world. With the new C 63 AMG "Edition 507", we are offering our loyal customers an attractive model variant which boasts even higher performance and at the same time is visually exciting."

The following is an overview of the models for the German market:

C 63 AMG "Edition 507" featuring technology transfer from the SLS AMG

The increase in power output to 373 kW (507 hp) at 6800 rpm comes courtesy of the modified inner workings of the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine: the forged pistons adopted from the SLS AMG, together with new connecting rods and a lightweight crankshaft, translate into a weight saving of three kilogrammes. The reduced mass inertia benefits the agility of the eight-cylinder M 156 naturally aspirated engine, which now features even higher levels of flexibility. The maximum torque has also increased by 10 Nm, jumping from 600 to 610 Nm at 5200 rpm. The titanium grey-painted variable intake manifold is a characteristic feature of the uprated V8 engine. A new engine control system rounds off the series of implemented powertrain measures.

Externally, the C 63 AMG "Edition 507" is characterised by a host of exclusive design features: most notable among these is the bonnet – it originates from the C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series. Two openings in the distinctive aluminium bonnet help with expelling engine heat. New AMG light-alloy cross-spoke wheels with tyres in sizes 235/35 R 19 (front) and 255/30 R 19 (rear) are another exclusive feature of the "Edition 507". The AMG light-alloy wheels are produced using particularly lightweight forging technology and are available in two variants: painted in titanium grey with a high-sheen finish, or matt black with high-sheen rim flanges. AMG sports stripes in matt graphite grey above the side sill panels are yet another new feature of the exterior.

The spoiler lip on the boot lid (Saloon and Coupé only), the exterior mirror housings as well as the surrounds on the radiator grille and daytime driving lights are all finished in high-gloss black. Darkened headlamps also add a distinctively sporty touch. Available as an optional extra exclusively for the C 63 AMG "Edition 507" is the designo magno platinum paint finish.

AMG high-performance braking system featuring composite technology

As standard, the C 63 AMG "Edition 507" comes with an even more powerful AMG high-performance braking system featuring composite technology. The front axle makes use of composite brake discs measuring 360 x 36 mm. The advantages of the composite design include higher fatigue strength and lower warping characteristics. In addition, composite discs also tip the scales at a lighter weight: the reduced unsprung masses improve the response of the spring/damping elements.

With composite technology, the brake discs are connected to an aluminium bowl via eight cast bracket arms. This results in homogenous elongation of the friction ring under heavy loads. The brake discs are ventilated and perforated all round and are decelerated by means of 6-piston aluminium fixed callipers on the front axle and 4-piston fixed callipers on the rear axle. The brake callipers are painted red all round.

"Edition 507" interior: even more dynamic and exclusive

The decidedly sporty yet functional interior of the C 63 AMG is even more dynamic and exclusive in the case of the "Edition 507". Three different equipment and appointment variants are available to choose from: porcelain designo leather/DINAMICA, black designo leather/DINAMICA and black designo leather. In the case of the designo leather/DINAMICA upholstery, light-coloured contrasting topstitching makes for an attractive highlight. The AMG Performance steering wheel in Alcantara® with light-coloured contrasting stitching has a 12-o'clock marking. The selector lever of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission is finished in DINAMICA and features an AMG badge. The steering wheel and selector lever gaiter also have light-coloured contrasting stitching.

In the AMG instrument cluster, red applications serve to visually differentiate this variant from the other C 63 AMG models. The trim in high-gloss black piano lacquer look and the "Edition 507" badge on the trim on the front passenger side round off the high-quality, exclusive interior.

Optional extras available from the AMG Performance Studio include:
