The Porsche Boxster S is the higher-performance version of Porsche's mid-engine roadster, which helps this model to gain a strong reputation among sports-car enthusiasts. In comparison with the standard Boxter, Boxter S offers more powerful engine, better brakes, a modified suspension and larger alloy wheels.
Highlights in Porsche Boxter S models
By using various weight saving techniques including aluminium door panels and engine cover, Porsche has shaved off 80kg and to complete the experience the Spyder gets 10bhp more power and firmer, 20mm lowered suspension than its stable mate. Compared to the previous generation cars, this model also looks much more confident and assured, and it certainly no longer deserves to be called the ‘poor man’s Porsche’.
With special design, the roof now furls and unfurls just in nine seconds only by the press of a button instead of having to secure it manually as found in old models. Once inside, the cockpit is mostly familiar, although with a few modern tweaks. For one, the three-pod gauge cluster is retained, but now the far right cluster is actually a 4.6-inch TFT screen.
Porsche Boxter S is also highly evaluated thanks to 15 percent improvements in CO2 and fuel economy, which really defeats other competitors born at the same time. The damping is supple enough to prevent breaks in the surface from unsettling the car or causing any jarring, which helps with comfort as well as keeping the tyres in contact with the asphalt.
As for the engine, needless to say, the familiar 3.4-litre boxer engine is a delight. Underneath the skin of the curvaceous, revised body of the Porsche Boxster S lies a 3.4-liter naturally aspirated boxer engine with 315 horsepower, up a five ponies over the preceding models. As a result, the biggest changes for the Boxster S are found in its styling, improved chassis and new interior layout. The new engine is also now equipped with automatic start/stop to help save fuel in city or stop and go driving.
The interior
One of the larger changes to the interior found in Porsche Boxter S models comes from the new center console, which is now elevated towards the instrument panel and features a much higher gearshift lever – closer to the steering wheel.
Born out of confusion, the appearance of Porsche Boxter S models really impress Porsche enthusiasts as the open-top two-seater car together with a completely new lightweight body and a completely revamped chassis. As mentioned above as an outstanding feature of these Boxter S models, considerably lower weight, longer wheelbase, a wider track and larger wheels significantly enhance the mid-engine sports car’s driving dynamics. The passengers are enclosed by the completely redesigned, fully electric hood, which now dispenses with a convertible top compartment lid.
Another particularly pleasing thing about the specs of Porsche Boxter S is the manual gearbox in place of PDK. However, for those who have failing knees or want to enjoy a snack on your way, the optional seven-speed PDK automatic transmission is also available as an option.
The interior concept offers users more space and reflects the new Porsche outline with the raked centre console, which, originating with the Carrera GT, ensures further improved ergonomics in all models. Certainly the users feel comfortable with this interior design.
