914 Porsche 911 916- the really eternal cars

1. Porsche 911 - The design resisting against time
Around half a century ago, 911 was a vital part of the car’s design field. 911 was no longer cars only, but cars with specially stylish designs.

Porsche 911 adopted the engine with 6 pistols to cool by air maintained with the nearly initial design. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the owner of the worldwide brand name, designed 911 with flat hood, protruding flashing lights, going-down bonnet, which are still found in the current 911. Nearly unchanged, 911 has been the symbol of characteristic.

Within nearly 50 years of appearance, the time-resistant strength of 911 seems endless. While the basic designs of 911 almost unchanged; and in recent years, Porsche has given up mixing the style of 911 into other cars such as Boxster và Cayman.

The executive director of Porsche- Matthias Mueller has made his statements to AP: "The creation of Porsche 911 has made a designing culture in our company, which has helped to differ it from other current sport cars of ours so far".

2. Porsche 114

Volkswagen and Porsche made an agreement which created the amazing Porsche 914 and its first debut was in September of 1969 at the Frankfurt Auto Show. This mid-engined sports car turned heads with its engine being behind the seats of the car and this helped favor agility and handling abilities that came as a result of the weight distribution. This car was a 2-seater and offers a removable fiberglass top which can be stored in 1 of 2 compartments. These two spaces became an essential part of the car as seating was limited in the car. The trim inside the car is simple and basic. Overall, the car’s dimensions are additionally compact and the front is slanted allowing for pop-up headlights. However, this design drew criticism from media and press. The Porsche 914 is available in two versions; the 4 cylinder (914/4) and a 6 cylinder (914/6).

Porsche 914/4
The 914/4 version of the Porsche featured a 1.7 liter engine which came from the VW 411E. The top speed of the 4 cylinder version was about 110 mph, but this version did sell better due to it being more economical. The Porsche name had to be maximized and was marketed as a VW-Porsche.

Porsche 914/6

Completely different from the 914/4 version, the 6 cylinder featured a 2.0 liter engine which came originally from the 911T Porsche. Both versions of this car are equipped with a 5 speed transmission and both cars also feature independent suspensions. The discs found in the 914/6 are ventilated and you would often times find these cars painted in vibrant and bright colors including reds, yellows, greens, and even oranges.

This car tops out at speeds of about 125 which made it a better performer as opposed to the 4 cylinder. The price tag on this car is rather high for many people and this made the 914/4 a better choice. This car was not manufactured anymore as of 1972.

In 1973, a newer version was released, which became the 2.0 liter engine 914. This car also produced 95 horsepower in the US while having 100 horsepower in Europe. In 1974 both versions of the Porsche 914 became equipped with bumpers as well as rubber guards that could withstand 5 mph impacts.

The year 1976 became the last year this car was manufactured and it was only found in the US. This particular car always did better in the US market anyways. Soon enough it was only offered as a 2.0 liter. Nowadays, owners of the Porsche 914 agree that this car is great for the open road and is a great entry level sports car. You can own one even on a budget and because of the weight distribution features it handles rather well on the road.

3. Porsche 916

Though the car had the 914’s frame, it was much more than just a modified version of it. Flared fenders were added covering 7-inch wide Fuchs five spoke wheels, a steel roof instead of a taiga top for improved rigidity, body colored fiberglass bumpers.

This four-wheel seems lower and sleeker than the heavy chromed bumpers of the 914. The front air dam had a large cutout in front for the oil cooler, and two smaller flanking cutouts for fog lights. The rear bumper was molded in a simple fashion with only one small hole for the exhaust, and a molded flat surface for mounting the license tags.

The inside was finished with luxurious leather and velour. The traditional 914 door panels were replaced with lighter components, including a small plastic door pull, and flexible fabric map pockets. The car was fitted from the factory with a Becker AM/FM Cassette stereo, which was quite advanced for 1972. It also had a special antenna molded into the windshield for increased reception, with the added benefit of maintaining smooth body lines.

A characteristic which distinguishes from the 914 was sitting directly behind the driver- a 2.4 liter engine from the 911S with 190 horsepower at 6500 rpm, and 159 pound feet of torque at 5200 rpm. Power was sent to rear wheels via reworked traditional-shift-pattern type 915 transmissions.

This version was 165 pounds lighter than the 911S, making it the quickest production Porsche at the time. 0-60 mph came in under seven seconds and top speed was 145 mph. Mid-engine layouts, powerful engine and a light weight sounded like a winning formula, but reality was far different.
