With the
2013 Porsche Boxster now on sale, the reveal of fixed-roof, mid-engine stablemate Porsche Cayman isn’t far behind. That reveal just might happen this month, as Porsche announced that a “compact sports car” will make its world debut at the 2012 L.A. Auto Show.
We previously reported that the
Cayman was likely to bow in Los Angeles, and since Porsche has been wishy-washy about its
proposed 550 Spyder successor, the Boxster’s coupe sibling fits the bill of a compact sports car. As we noted before, the Cayman will receive updated exterior styling with cues taken from the new Boxster (shown at right). Also borrowed from the Boxster will be a 2.7-liter flat-six likely boasting 5-10 hp more than the mid-engine roadster’s 265 hp. The Cayman S will retain its
3.4-liter flat-six tuned to around 330 hp. We’ve liked what we’ve seen thus far with the 2013 Porsche Boxster, and given that we named the Porsche Cayman S our
2009 Best Driver’s Car, we expect big things with the next-gen Cayman.
Also slated to appear in L.A. is the
2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4, which will make its North American debut at the show. The all-wheel-drive 911 will take the stage alongside the mystery small sports car on November 28.
